What are String & Twine Used For?

Thursday 6th April 2023

String & Twine are flexible and versatile products, below are some examples of their many uses.

Hang BasketsYou can use gardening twine to hang baskets of plants and flowers. This will free up some extra space in your garden for other plants. You can also use twine to turn a regular container into a hanging container.
You can also hang harvested onions, garlic, and herbs with gardening twine. Start by hanging a length of twine horizontally. Then you can hang each item vertically from the main horizontal twine with smaller lengths of twine.

Making a Trellis: You can also use twine to make a trellis to support your plants. To make a twine trellis, start by inserting two stakes into the ground near your plant that needs some support. The stakes should be as tall as you want your trellis to be. Tie lengths of twine between the two stakes, pulled taut. Add more twine every six inches, going up to the top of your stakes. This makes a simple ladder trellis for your plants to grow on.

Making & Repairing Upholstery:  such as you can use it for crafting tasks such as the sewing of springs and buttoning of hairs or fibres.

Crafts & Gift Wrap: crafts include macramé, bracelet making and floristry, whilst many use string and twine to create a rustic vintage feel when wrapping gifts, hanging bunting, creating handmade decorations.

Tying Straw Bales: Easily knotted synthetic twine can be used for the binding of straw bales and bundled crops. The anti-static properties of such twine prevent the trapping of dust and absorption of moisture.

Training Fruit Tree Branches: You can use twine to guide fruit tree branches in different directions for the desired appearance. Fruit trees can be trained so that they grow against walls or other types of upright support.

Dividing Rows of Plants: Twine is commonly used for the separation of garden plots. And plants can be securely tied to the upright stakes for added support through the seasons.
